PHP-Fusion Works But?
Scrip Reviewed by CMS Master, 2006-12-10

PHP-fusion began as a small and very versatile system that pleased everyone who worked with it or used it for its simplicity. The lead developer was often know to state he would never allow the system to end up like all the rest. Well like many others who said the same thing about their scripts he was wrong. With the general idea being a small script that could make a large site many things unwanted by a percentage of users became part of the system and "forced" on users. These things could have been done differently and made as infusions but it was not to be. Here we are stuck with inbuilt gallery's, forums and articles etc. The development team says it is nothing to be concerned about just "remove the link" and its gone. The problem with this is its not gone at all. Several queries are still run on those tables for no reason in that case. So a system that is already way too heavy on the database queries running additional unwanted queries. Yeah just what is needed. Several programmers/mod makers have proved that the system could easily have been continued with better results by removing the excess and turning it into infusions. The first to try this was "Evit" who with foresight could see the way php-fusion was going some time ago. Although php-fusion continues to forge ahead and is without doubt becoming more and more popular the community itself is a mess. Because of friction between different "administrators" on different sites there is minimal to no communication in regard to core support with most core support sites interested only in making their site better and more popular. But without doubt the mod support sites are definitely the biggest downfall. Spread all over the world with different scripts in each one with support only from this site or that site. to be perfectly blunt the situation is laughable. Between the mod sites the beta sites the theme sites the official sites and unofficial sites is it any wonder that no-one knows where they really stand. Instead of improving the situation the new development team has decided that all the sites must come into line by being the same or no longer be official sites. What a kick for the sites who have gone to so much trouble to show how much can be done with php-fusion in their sites but thats the way it is wanted. The development team would have been better served to create a global support site and file repository system that would benefit the users of this CMS.
As a final part of this review i would like to point out that at no time while writing this have i intended to offend anyone and reassure everyone interested that as CMS portals go php-fusion is without doubt a leader in what it does.
The support from all support sites is basically pathetic but the core system would not require support so it would not concern 20% of users who would never modify the code anyway.
For the other 80% be sure you know what you are doing before you start changing the files as you may find that even with the multiple sites developers go through in order to get an infusion released that they are invariably buggy in one way or another and support is minimal to non non-existent in most cases.

i give the system itself 7/10 the core support 4/10 and general mod support 2/10 There are as with anything like this sites where this is all different but to break it down further would make a long review so this is an overall review.
