Wyzz WYSIWYG EditorPopular - PHP Script

Wyzz is a very small, very light WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) Editor for use in your web applications. It's written in JavaScript, and is free (as in speech and as in beer) for you to use in your web applications and/or alter to your needs (see the licence conditions).

There are quite a few WYSIWYG editors around, many of them free - and some of them, such as FCK Editor, TinyMCE and others, are really excellent. Unfortunately, most of them are quite heavyweight applications in their own right.

Our goal with Wyzz is to create an Ultra-Lite (<10k!) WYSIWYG editor that's also a breeze to implement.

Unfortunately, it therefore won't have all of the functions of the more complex editors; but in many application, these are superfluous anyway.

Where did Wyzz Come From?

Wyzz was born from my own requirement for a lightweight WYSIWYG editor for my own applications, including a small CMS, a webmail client and a small intranet-based document management system. Much of the inspiration for Wyzz has come from OpenWYSIWYG, another open-source WYSIWYG project, and I thank the contributors to that effort for getting me interested in writing one.

Review of Wyzz WYSIWYG Editor *Fair*

While it does seem to do the job. V0.62 lacks the button to select source or preview. Also adding a picture is by way of a link. It does not upload the picture simply refrences it via hyperlink.

Over all design too lacks professional feel. However, if you are a javascript coder, you can extensively modify the code to suit your requirements.

Finally, since this is javascript (client side implementation) it works on any server. On the downside, because it is implemented in javascript, it won't work well in all browsers. It seems to work okay in IE 8 and FF 3.6 (Mozilla 5.0)

Hope this review helps

Thank you so much for this script, after the many big and complicated scripts i've tried - this felt so good - very fast and simple to implement - RECCOMEND!

a very good editor

a very good text editor. i just added it and it works brilliant.
the only thing no one told me and i had to figure it out by myself was that to insert it into your page you'll need to write the following code on your page:

pointing to the directory where your script is.
also:
if you add a in your text, it is impossible to remove it
if you start adding a link or an image and you change your mind, it still adds an empty image or link
you need tork out a bit the design of the editor
otherwise - a very good script, and free
recommended 5/5

Incredibly easy to use

This is by far the easiest textarea wysiwyg to implement of the many I've tried. The forum on the site is also very active and supported by the author of the script. I particularly like how easy it is to add and remove tools from the toolbar, so I can give my users only the editing facilities I want them to have. A GREAT SCRIPT, thank you!

Excellent Solution

I love this script, it was exactly what I wanted to allow a website owner to be able to edit their own content without having to install a heavyweight and uneccessary full blown CMS. It really is so easy to implement and customise to your needs and does the job very well indeed. Only one minor niggle, I'm not too keen on the way the colour pickers display, they're a bit OTT and require a lot of scrolling - a smaller, neater selection of colours would be better IMO.

so easy to implement!
